Our Story.
Tancook was founded by Peter Ellement in 2016 following a lengthy career at Sprucegrove Investment Management, where he served as Co-President and Portfolio Manager.
Our company's approach is rooted in the extensive experience and shared values of our team, which consists largely of former Sprucegrove colleagues. This common background not only shapes our approach to investment but also forms the core of our company culture. Together, we bring decades of experience in global equities, united by a similar investment philosophy.

The Tancook Name
Tancook is named after two islands on the south shore of Nova Scotia, Little Tancook and Big Tancook. The word is derived from the Mi'kmaq language, and means "facing the open sea." This seemed appropriate given our focus on the opportunities in the vast international equity universe.
